Packing my bags

I have been home for about a year since my first deployment - six months in Kosovo. And now I am preparing to go again - this time to Southwest Asia for 18 months. As you could imagine, it is hard to leave family and loved ones once again. This time to a more dangerous place. However, I am ready and willing to serve my country to fight the War on Terrorism. I'd rather fight them over there, then to allow the terrorists come over here and kill more Americans.

Deployment actually simplifies my life, even if it is challenging. All I have to focus on is my mission. I hope to use the opportunity to draw closer to God. Hopefully I can get together with other believers so that we can encourage each other in our faith.

I ask you to pray for me while I am gone -- pray for my safety and ability to do my mission, that I can make a difference over there -- pray for my family, that they get along well while I am gone -- and pray that I will be able to nurish my faith and relationship with God, sharing His grace with others along the way.

Thanks, Marla. I will try to blog while gone. I re-started my blog partly with that in mind. For obvious security reasons, I have to be careful what I write. But I think it is a good way to keep people back home aware of what is going on.
